Fascinated by the relationship between humans and technology, visual artist Jochem Esser explores connections between physical stimuli, objects and mental phenomena. Combining contrasting techniques from different historical periods to blur the border between technology and artifact, his visual language draws inspiration from science fiction, occultism and data visualization.

He focuses on acoustics, creating objects that direct the viewers' attention to the electronics in his work. The viewer starts to become aware that they are not just listening to sound – but being acoustically coupled with objects that create sound. With Esser's work, the mediator becomes the object.
