Escape into the colourful, pattern mixing world of Roeqiya Fris.
The Dutch-Egyptian illustrator uses ‘Arab culture, nature, and fashion’ as her inspiration. As visual splendour she places repeating motives every opportunity she gets. The prints display women who are impeccably dressed in prints as they exist in surroundings that are equally as busy. The patterns are combined in the most satisfying way.
For the prints Roeqiya uses ecoline, watercolor, markers, pencils and gouache on paper. For inspiration she gathers pictures of women, plants and, Arabic or Mediterranean scenes.
Roeqiya graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy of Visual Arts in 2005. She has worked as a fine art teacher and ran a creative workshop company called Fris Projecten for 6 years. Two years ago, she started to focus on creating her own beautiful works.
