VAN HEESCH DESIGN

The idea for the bike has sprung from the idea that bikes are rusting very easily in Holland with all that rain and become rather ugly after a while. There's also already an official parkingproblem for bikes in Amsterdam... So can you imagine? Sometimes Amsterdam looks like a scrap heap graveyard. But with the copper bike the layer of copper protects it from rust and eventually will turn into this gorgeous green. It becomes even more beautiful in time!

The copper bike is for people who like to open other people minds by bringing them a little bit out of balance in a positive way. Initially people don't really understand what they're seeing, yes it's a bike but strangely enough completely copperplated. It has this amazing effect on people because copper is a very alive material. You don't own this bike, you'll share it with the world. Life is about sharing and sharing is what you'll do riding this bike!

As a designer I like to follow and play with questions in general. Eventually the answers will come naturally. As for the bike I was always fascinated by bicycles because of it's easy way of transport and that it makes you independent and healthy. All you need is a bit of your own strength and there you go! That's what makes me happy!
