On Thursday, 30 May, David Laport showed his latest collection consisting of 20 looks during the third annual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Ibiza as part of Madrid Fashion Week. With his ready-to-wear collection, inspired by couture pieces, sculptural forms are central. Laport represented his Dutch roots as a ‘guest designer’ among a total of six designers who showed their looks for an international audience. The show’s theme was a contrast between old and new. The inspiration behind this collection came from a new innovation in the field of agricultural technology called Super Photosynthesis, which makes it possible to make plants grow 10 times faster. The show also incorporated a new photo series by photographer Beth Moon that captures the world’s oldest trees. Laport was inspired by the nature of Ibiza when designing the colour story of the collection. He developed various special jacquard fabrics in France, and he consistently used unique handmade fabrics—feathers, pleats and sequins—in a modern and contemporary way.
