INSIDE X BANK - DAVID LAPORT

INSIDE X BANK - DAVID LAPORT

For our new concept INSIDE X BANK
we ask Dutch designers five questions.
The first questions go to European Woolmark
Prize winner David Laport.

Graduating from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague in 2012, David Laport (1986) showcased his wind-blown collection.
Taken by his ingenuity in technique and strength of concept, he gained extensive media coverage,
which kick-started his career. The David Laport brand aesthetic is one of modern classic silhouettes,
which contemporize the female form. This means that the cut and fit of a garment takes centre stage and
this form-following approach lends itself very well to bespoke tailoring.
Specializing in women’s wear, Laport draws inspiration from experimental female silhouettes.
International celebrities such as Solange Knowles, SIA and Jessie J have worn his Haute Couture designs for
events such as the MET Gala & performances.

Who is your favorite X BANK designer, and why? (besides yourself of course)
Jenny Ritzenhoff is my favourite designer at X BANK with the ‘Traces’ vases.
The Robustness of the vases appeal to me, they give me a sense of nature’s strength which I find attractive.

What does it mean for you as a designer to have your products/collection at X BANK?
X BANK is a tribute to Dutch designers by selling only Dutch designed goods, I think it is an amazing concept.
The activities you organize around collections really creates a buzz and makes X BANK well-known in Amsterdam and international.
What you have accomplished is admirable and for me as a designer I am honored to be part of it.

What is in your opinion typical for Dutch art, fashion and design?
Compared to Scandinavian design, which in my opinion really has it’s own typical signature,
I don’t think you can speak off a typical Dutch design. I do think that Dutch design, whether it’s in art, fashion,
industrial, furniture etc, has overall elements of convenience and comfort and innovation.

What made you decide to collaborate with X BANK for this exclusive holiday collection?
I just really like the whole set-up of the store and the concept attached to it. Additionally to be part of the
online launch of X BANK store and create a capsule collection in honor of it appealed to me to start this special collaboration.
The campaign attached to this collection has become an impressive story celebrating this special moment.

What is so special about this capsule collection?
The garments developed for this capsule collection are fully made out of backflip sequins.
It’s magical, distinctive and discreet at the same time. You can wear it as you like, extravagant
and explicitly by using the sequins two sided, mixing black and silver in your look.
Or you can wear it discretely with an overall black sequin look. Because of the backflip option, the capsule collection is dynamic.
I think it works well and it appeals to broad selection of women.
