We are thrilled to announce that one of X BANK’s brands,
Schueller de Waal, just won the Dutch Design Award for
their Spring/Summer 2018 Fashion Show “Compulsory Shenanigans.”
The show, which took place in September 2017, was the 9th
collection for this independent fashion label, designed by Rens de Waal
and Philipp Schueller. The design duo were recognized by the DDA
as one of twenty-four Dutch design companies that are using their medium,
in this case fashion, as a catalyst for change.
“Compulsory Shenanigans” was not only about showing their most recent collection but it was also the platform on which they both embraced and poked fun at the cliches that surround the business of fashion. They staged a massive show – on the scale of a Chanel – and showed nearly 60 looks. In addition to the new collection, the designers also included pieces from the dead stock of the World Fashion Centre, garments from past collections, and even half-finished looks to emphasize the unattainable scale of some of these larger fashion houses. It was not a surprising turn for a label whose motto is “Serious fashion…not so serious.”
It was specifically this commentary on the excesses of the fashion industry and their tongue-in-cheek approach to conveying their sentiments that caught the eye of the DDA last September and landed them their most recent accolade. We couldn’t be happier to congratulate them on their success and to welcome back their collection this September at X BANK.
